How to Prompt a Problem-Solution Ad with AI

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Problem-solution is one of the most reliable ad formats. It shows a frustration your audience recognizes, then shows the product making it go away. The contrast does the persuading.

In an AI prompt, the challenge is getting both halves into one clear image or a short sequence without it becoming cluttered.

When to use it

  • Products that fix an obvious everyday annoyance.
  • Cleaning, skincare, organization, and productivity products.
  • Retargeting ads for people who already know the problem.

How to write the prompt

1. Make the problem visual. Describe what the problem looks like: tangled cables, dull skin, a cluttered desk. Abstract problems do not photograph.

2. Contrast clearly. Ask for a visual contrast between the pain point and the product's payoff, like split frames or a before-and-after layout.

3. Keep the product as the hero. The solution side should be clean, bright, and centered on the product.

4. Use a calm brand look. Soft or clean aesthetics make the solution feel like relief. Save bold, chaotic styles for the problem side.

Copy-ready example

Subject: A magnetic cable organizer turning a tangled mess of chargers into a tidy desk. Generate the ad frame from the keyframe prompt. For a video ad, use that frame as the start image and the motion layer as the video prompt.

Keyframe / image prompt
A magnetic cable organizer turning a tangled mess of chargers into a tidy desk. earthy organic aesthetic, natural materials, warm neutrals and sustainable feel, problem-then-solution hook, visually contrasting a pain point with the product's payoff. 4:5 portrait feed composition maximizing vertical screen real estate, open negative space on the left for body copy, composition leaves space for a 'Learn More' prompt. Scroll-stopping ad creative, high-contrast, professional advertising photography, sharp and vibrant.
Motion prompt (for video ads)
Camera / motion: subtle slow push-in with minimal, premium movement suited to an in-feed autoplay. Keep the reserved text and CTA zones static and unobstructed throughout the move. Maintain product identity and brand colors across all frames.
Negative prompt & style
Negative: blurry, low quality, distorted, deformed, extra limbs, disfigured, watermark, signature, jpeg artifacts, text errors, bad anatomy, cluttered composition, busy background over text area, illegible, off-brand colors, messy edges.
Style: thumb-stopping, ad-ready, clean composition, strong focal hierarchy, premium finish.

Common mistakes

  • A problem that is not visible, so the ad has no tension.
  • Both halves equally busy, so there is no relief in the payoff.
  • The product appearing small or off to the side in the solution.
  • Exaggerated before-and-after claims that ad platforms may reject.
