How to Prompt AI Ad Creative for the Instagram and Facebook Feed
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Feed ads compete with friends' photos, so they need to look polished without looking like a generic stock image. The 4:5 portrait format takes up the most screen space in the feed, which makes it the default for most advertisers.
A strong prompt combines a clear brand aesthetic, one hook, and a layout that leaves room for your copy.
When to use it
- Instagram and Facebook feed placements.
- Launch announcements and promotions.
- Carousel cover images.
How to write the prompt
1. Set the brand aesthetic first. Minimal luxury, bold and vibrant, soft pastel: naming the look keeps colors, props, and lighting consistent with your brand.
2. Use the 4:5 format. Ask for a 4:5 portrait aspect ratio. It fills more of the feed than square or landscape.
3. Plan where the copy goes. Decide on a headline or body copy area and keep it clean in the prompt. Text added later should sit on calm space.
4. Use social proof or aspiration. Feed ads perform well when they show the result or the lifestyle the product enables, rather than just the product alone.
Copy-ready example
Subject: A skincare serum bottle surrounded by dewy botanicals on a stone ledge. Generate the ad frame from the keyframe prompt. For a video ad, use that frame as the start image and the motion layer as the video prompt.
A skincare serum bottle surrounded by dewy botanicals on a stone ledge. soft pastel wellness aesthetic, gentle tones and calming, organic styling, aspirational lifestyle hook, showing the desirable outcome and status the product unlocks. 4:5 portrait feed composition maximizing vertical screen real estate, clean negative space across the top third reserved for a headline overlay, composition leaves a clear anchor zone for a 'Shop Now' button. Scroll-stopping ad creative, high-contrast, professional advertising photography, sharp and vibrant.
Camera / motion: subtle slow push-in with minimal, premium movement suited to an in-feed autoplay. Keep the reserved text and CTA zones static and unobstructed throughout the move. Maintain product identity and brand colors across all frames.
Negative: blurry, low quality, distorted, deformed, extra limbs, disfigured, watermark, signature, jpeg artifacts, text errors, bad anatomy, cluttered composition, busy background over text area, illegible, off-brand colors, messy edges. Style: thumb-stopping, ad-ready, clean composition, strong focal hierarchy, premium finish.
Common mistakes
- Off-brand colors because no aesthetic was specified.
- Landscape images that look tiny in a mobile feed.
- No room for copy, so text ends up over the product.
- Overly busy scenes that look like stock photos.
