How to Prompt UGC-Style AI Ad Creative That Feels Authentic

Last updated: October 12, 2026

UGC-style ads imitate user-generated content: a person talking to the camera or showing a product in an ordinary room, shot on a phone. They work because they look like a recommendation from a friend instead of an advertisement, so polish is often the enemy.

That makes them tricky to prompt. Most AI models default to glossy, cinematic output. To get an authentic feel you have to ask for the imperfections of phone footage on purpose, while still keeping the product clear and the frame usable.

When to use it

  • Vertical ads for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts where native-looking content performs best.
  • Everyday products such as skincare tools, kitchen gear, bags, and apparel.
  • Testimonial-style concepts that show a product in real use.
  • Early concept testing, where you want several quick creative angles before a full production.

How to write the prompt

1. Ask for phone-camera framing. Say "handheld vertical smartphone footage, slight natural camera shake, selfie-style framing." This steers the model away from tripod-perfect cinematic moves.

2. Use an honest, lived-in setting. A kitchen counter, bedroom, or car seat reads as real. Add a few everyday props, but keep the background simple enough that the product stays the focus.

3. Pick natural window light. Soft daylight from a window is the signature of home-shot content. Avoid studio lighting words, which push the image back toward a commercial look.

4. Show the product in use. Describe a simple action: unboxing, applying, pouring, or putting it on. A clear moment of use gives the clip a purpose within its first seconds.

5. Keep a clean zone for captions. UGC leans on on-screen text. Reserve clear space at the top or bottom so captions and platform buttons do not cover the product.

Copy-ready example

Subject: A young woman at her kitchen counter showing a new insulated water bottle to the camera, smiling and casually talking. Generate the ad frame from the keyframe prompt. For a video ad, use that frame as the start image and the motion layer as the video prompt.

Keyframe / image prompt
A young woman at her kitchen counter showing a new insulated water bottle to the camera, smiling and casually talking. earthy organic aesthetic, natural materials, warm neutrals and sustainable feel, social-proof hook, testimonial-style authenticity and trust cues. 9:16 vertical full-bleed composition optimized for Reels and TikTok, clear lower band reserved for a call-to-action bar, composition leaves a clear anchor zone for a 'Shop Now' button. Scroll-stopping ad creative, high-contrast, professional advertising photography, sharp and vibrant.
Motion prompt (for video ads)
Camera / motion: fast energetic vertical push-in with a punchy first-frame hook, thumb-stopping pace. Keep the reserved text and CTA zones static and unobstructed throughout the move. Maintain product identity and brand colors across all frames.
Negative prompt & style
Negative: blurry, low quality, distorted, deformed, extra limbs, disfigured, watermark, signature, jpeg artifacts, text errors, bad anatomy, cluttered composition, busy background over text area, illegible, off-brand colors, messy edges.
Style: thumb-stopping, ad-ready, clean composition, strong focal hierarchy, premium finish.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving out the phone-footage cues, which produces a slick commercial instead.
  • Staging a perfect, styled room that no real customer has.
  • Putting the product in the corners where platform interface elements cover it.
  • Inventing testimonial claims or results in the visuals that you cannot support in real life.
